“Can't even keep up with a female officer?”... Modern soldiers complain after running only 3km
On the 1st, a video shared across various online communities featuring the military service experiences of YouTuber A, a former female officer, has been garnering significant attention.
In the video, A recalled a physical training session she had with her platoon members. She began by saying, “At the time, we were doing a 5km run, and there were many cases where the platoon members' fitness levels were lower than mine,” adding, “I started running with the soldiers to help improve their physical strength.”
Conflict arose about 3km into the run. A sergeant approached A and protested, saying, “Platoon Leader, can't you see that the guys are struggling right now?”
A, taken aback, asked, “What did you just say to me?” but the sergeant remained adamant, replying, “Can't you see? The guys are exhausted and about to die.” Ultimately, A had to end the run early to avoid a further argument with the soldiers.
As the video spread, netizens poured out criticisms regarding the fitness levels and the lack of discipline among current military personnel.
One netizen strongly criticized the situation, stating, “If a soldier finds a 3km run overwhelming, one cannot help but worry about their combat capability,” and added, “Above all, for a soldier to openly defy a platoon leader is a clear case of insubordination.”
They further pointed out, “Improving soldier welfare is good, but I want to ask if it is normal that commanders cannot exercise proper authority because they are walking on eggshells around the soldiers.”
Another netizen, who identified as an active-duty soldier, heightened the criticism, saying, “I've seen a private first class sitting in a priority seat for pregnant women, wearing earphones and just staring at their smartphone.” They added, “If they can't even learn the basics within the base while claiming to fulfill their duty of national defense, what use will they be in a wartime situation?”
