First Lady Yuk Young-soo's 'Chief Inspector' Phone Call Incident

Former President Park Chung-hee was a well-known heavy smoker. He frequently smoked domestic brands like 'Parangsae' (Bluebird) or 'Hansando'.

It is said that he never let go of a cigarette whenever he was stressed or attending to official business.

However, whenever 'Chief Inspector' (Susa Banjang)—the most popular drama at the time—started, President Park

would sit in front of the TV and become completely immersed in it...

In the show, there were many scenes where Chief Inspector Park (played by Choi Bool-am) would smoke deeply while agonizing over a case that had hit a dead end.

He reportedly smoked about four cigarettes per episode.

It is said that President Park would watch this and, in '100% synchronization,' light up a cigarette and smoke along with him.

When First Lady Yuk Young-soo saw this,

she thought, "If I leave him like this, my husband is going to be screwed,"

so immediately,

she called Choi Bool-am and the production crew of 'Chief Inspector'.

She pleaded with them, saying, "My husband smokes because he's following what he sees in your show,"

and begged them to please reduce the smoking scenes.

Upon receiving the First Lady's earnest request, Choi Bool-am and the production crew were naturally thrown into a state of emergency.

From then on, the smoking scenes in the drama were drastically reduced,

or replaced with scenes of stubbing out a cigarette.
