“So White, So Cute”… ‘White Calf’ Becomes a Sensation at Yeongam Hanwoo Farm
A calf born completely white at a livestock farm in Yeongam, South Jeolla Province, is drawing significant attention.
Moon Jeong-geun (68), who raises about 40 head of Hanwoo (Korean native cattle) in Jangseong-ri, Deokjin-myeon, Yeongam-gun, stated that a mother cow gave birth to a completely white male calf in the early hours of May 24.
“I have been in the livestock industry for over 20 years, but this is the first time I've seen a calf this pure white,” Moon said. “I think a genetic analysis will be necessary to determine the exact cause.”
Lee Jae-myeon, head of the Yeongam Nangju Nonghyup, said, “Even when white calves are born, they often have yellow patches on parts of their bodies, but since this one is entirely white, local residents view it as a ‘good omen.’” He added, “With farmers struggling due to the rising costs of feed and agricultural materials, I hope this white calf becomes a small beacon of hope bringing positive energy.”
