"Didn't the President do this too?"... 40-something clashes at polling station while trying to show ballot
10 minutes of commotion... voting proceeded normally
On the day of the June 3 local elections, a person in their 40s caused a disturbance at a polling station in Sejong by clashing with National Election Commission (NEC) staff while attempting to show their marked ballot to the election officials.
According to the Sejong City Election Commission and the Sejong Nambu Police Station on the 3rd, a person in their 40s, referred to as "A," reportedly finished marking their ballot at a polling station in Dajeong-dong, Sejong City, around 6:29 AM, but instead of placing it immediately into the ballot box, they tried to show it to the nearby election officials.
When the election official tried to stop them, A reportedly said things to the effect of, "Didn't the President do this too?" and "Please check if I marked it correctly."
When the NEC staff refused to check, A remained inside the polling station for over 10 minutes protesting and only left after police, who were dispatched following a report, ordered them to exit.
A report was filed via 112, and the police and the NEC are currently verifying the details of the situation.
Voting at the polling station was not suspended due to the commotion. An official from the Sejong City Election Commission stated, "While the process wasn't perfectly smooth because of the disturbance, many people were lined up to vote and did so in order."
The police and the NEC sent A home and are further examining the specific circumstances of the incident.
