In episode 7, he particularly drew attention by appearing in a grandmother disguise, complete with a permed wig and floral clothing. While the scene brought laughter to viewers, Park Ji-hoon said he had many concerns during filming.
He explained that because it was an emotional scene where the tearful acting of his co-star, Kang Ha-kyung, was crucial, he was cautious that he might accidentally break the mood.
"I think many people liked it, but for me, it was a very delicate scene," he said. "It's a scene where Corporal Kim Kwan-cheol (Kang Ha-kyung) tastes a hamburger and reminisces about his grandmother. The person who actually played the grandmother passes by on screen, and then I appear in the disguise. Actually, it was an emotional scene where Ha-kyung hyung had to cry, so I was worried that my appearance would ruin the atmosphere."
He continued, "I was wearing the grandmother disguise and delivering the lines, but I was cautious about whether that would be conveyed well. Still, I tried to put in as much energy as possible. Ha-kyung hyung actually thanked me, saying, 'I cried because of you.' To me, it was a scene that was just funny, but I was cautious and thought about it a lot. Honestly, I thought I would be laughing on the day of filming, but once I got on set, it was actually very quiet," he revealed.
This isn't the only shocking transformation for Park Ji-hoon. He parodied Michelangelo's masterpiece 'The Creation of Adam' while wrapped in seaweed, and showed off his commitment to comic acting by playing a backbone like an accordion.
Regarding the 'backbone accordion scene,' he recalled, "Only the prop was prepared, and there was no specific plan on how to film it. So I asked on set, 'Could you play a song for me?' and waltz-style music came on. Everything was truly improvised. It was a scene born from the mindset of trying everything, including dancing a Russian folk dance."
About the scene where he appeared in the seaweed costume, he said, "The outfit was too low-cut. There was a risk that one side of my chest would be completely exposed, so we hurriedly modified the costume on set. It was a scene where I had to come down on a wire, but since I have a lot of experience with wires, there were no difficulties on set. It went smoothly."
When asked about the most important part of that scene, Park Ji-hoon pointed out, "How to make it more fun."
As Park Ji-hoon mentioned, many scenes in 'Becoming a Legend Culinary Soldier' were created on set. There were quite a few ad-libs he added himself. The scene where he hands a hamburger to First Sergeant Park Jae-young (Yoon Kyung-ho) was also a result of their collaboration on set.
He explained, "In the original script, the scene of continuously handing over the hamburger only happened once or twice. My lines like 'Please, just eat it once' and 'This is really the last one' weren't in the script. I just improvised and rehearsed with senior Yoon Kyung-ho on set." He added, "The scene where we wear blindfolds, like an homage to 'Culinary Class Wars,' was also senior Yoon Kyung-ho's idea."
Yoon Kyung-ho had suggested to Park Ji-hoon, "Wouldn't it be more natural for the favorability score to increase if you brought me hamburgers a bit more?" To this, Park Ji-hoon expressed satisfaction, saying, "So many things were added on set, and we created them by matching our rhythm on the day. Those kinds of scenes were fun."
